My Third Trimester Wardrobe Staples

My Third Trimester Wardrobe Staples

Throughout my pregnancy, the one thing that consistently made me feel better (both physically and mentally) was feeling polished & pulled together. At least as much as I could muster! I can’t say I had a difficult pregnancy, but I certainly didn’t have a breezy one either. Wearing a simple, comfortable yet ‘chic’ outfit was the one constant I felt I could pull off most days.

In the last trimester, baby truly made her appearance and I needed to modify my wardrobe around new pieces that fit the bump. I wanted to focus on a few core pieces that were comfortable and affordable which for me was mostly leggings & dresses. These are the items I wore just about once a week mixed in with items already in my closet (scarves, jewelry & jackets/cardigans) to maximize my closet until Baby’s arrival!

Ribbed Jersey Dress

This might be my number one favorite thing I purchased, and it’s only $30! It worked perfectly when it was still warm outside with sandals or heels and then as I moved into Winter, it stretched nicely and I would throw a long jacket over it to stay warm. If I didn’t stretch it out too much while pregnant, I will definitely be purchasing one or two of these to have on hand for regular wear.

Spanx Faux Leather Maternity Leggings

I really wish I would have bought these sooner! I have gotten a ton of use out of them, the soft top over the belly is beyond comfortable and more realistic to wear vs. the originals that started to cut into the bump. I did size up to a medium to give myself a bit more room and have spent a fair amount of time yanking them up, I’d recommend just going with the normal size you wear in Spanx.

Blanqi Black Leggings

I bought these pretty early on in my pregnancy and they truly lasted me throughout! I’ve read mixed reviews online, but they are absolutely my favorite pair of leggings that fit well no matter my bump size.

H&M Tights

Because I relied on a few dresses most of the third trimester, a reliable pair of tights in the chilly months was a must-have. I bought these as well as the fleece lined ones. It was easy to take care of them, I just tossed them in the laundry/dryer!

Hatch for J. Crew Sweater Dress

I bought this dress in black, which unfortunately is no longer available. But the grey is lovely and would be really versatile as well with different vests/jackets or simply different earrings (i.e. gold hoops vs. leopard ones). I liked having this dress as an option to wear to work and I also wore it on ‘special occasions’ like our anniversary, Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Rib-Knit Dress from H&M

Another piece that lasted me really throughout my pregnancy! I bought this in the second trimester when the bump was still relatively smaller and it layered perfectly with suede jackets and light scarves for Fall from my closet. Once it cooled off, I layered with tights and again different blazers and jackets already in my wardrobe that are non-maternity.

Mama Padded Jacket from H&M

When I first bought this jacket I was really on the fence about it – I didn’t think it would really have enough stretch to last me until the end. But it has, for the most part. It has ripped a little in one of the shoulders and I can’t wear a scarf underneath while still zipping it. But, I purchased during a sale period (I think 30% off) and if this is the only season I wear it, I got my use out of it! No one even thinks it’s a maternity jacket which might make you feel a bit better as you grow 🙂

Mama Jersey Turtleneck Top from H&M

I really wish I would have bought several of these – I wore this top over leggings with different sweaters/jackets and a lot of vests all the way through. In fact, I just said to my husband that I’ve worn and washed it so frequently that it’s pilled and definitely will need to be tossed once Baby arrives. The extra stretch makes it really comfortable and if you haven’t noticed a theme by now – black is a really flattering color as you grow!

Barefoot Dreams Cardigan

I mostly wore this around the house, and plan to take with me to and from the hospital once I go into labor. I’m not sure I think it’s the most figure-flattering piece in my closet, but it’s really cozy and should be a nice piece to have while I’m nursing in the chilly months.

I hope you found this helpful if you are expecting and looking for easy, comfortable clothes that are affordable and don’t require an overhaul of your current wardrobe. Let me know if you have any favorites I missed or send me a note if you agree on the above! You can comment or email anytime
