I absolutely LOVE getting dressed up for weddings! Weddings in Europe are often an all-day event, and my friend’s wedding last weekend in Amsterdam was no exception. The buses picked us up at 1:30P and the last bus going back to the city left at 1:30A! I knew I needed a look that would get me through the whole day yet be comfortable. I also decided that I wanted to choose a color that was fun and went along with Amsterdam’s bold personality, so I chose to wear red. I used to think you couldn’t wear red to weddings, but it seems that is an old fashioned notion. If you are looking for more evidence to the ‘red rule’, Who What Wear recently published an article answering this very question here. Although I do not think it’s appropriate to wear any shade of white or even a pale yellow that could be mistaken for white to a wedding, so perhaps I am still a bit old fashioned.
Finally, I wanted to ensure that everything was affordable. Every piece I chose is just around $100. The Sam Edelman shoes I have worn for almost two years now, they still look great and I find them very comfortable. An extremely important factor when it comes to hitting the dance floor. The sun doesn’t set in Amsterdam until around 10P and it was a sunny, beautiful day, so bringing along a pair of shades was a must. I got really lucky finding this dress for $129 from Bardot. It is comfortable and kept me looking pulled together throughout the day and evening.
I will admit that many of the ‘cocktail attire’ dresses I end up wearing are a solid-colored, lace material dress. I suppose we all have our go-to favorites and that appears to be mine! What is your favorite style of dress to wear to weddings?
